In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create a successful teapot and why that makes a difference. A good pour is crucial as it ensures the tea flows smoothly and evenly. The handle’s placement is also key; it should be comfortable and balanced to make pouring easy and enjoyable.

Throwing Off the Hump: Learn the traditional technique of throwing off the hump to create your teapot. This method allows for greater control and efficiency, and is perfect for crafting multiple pieces.

Handle Practice: Master the art of handle-making. Guide you through various techniques to create sturdy and aesthetically pleasing handles that complement your teapots.

Creative Exploration: Experiment with different shapes, sizes, and designs. This workshop is all about exploring your creativity and pushing the boundaries of traditional teapot making, while still keeping it successfully functional. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have four beautifully crafted teapots to take home, each a testament to your newfound skills and creativity.

Price includes instruction, studio time, firings, and glazes. Clay not included.

Weekly Breakdown

Wednesdays 9:30am-1:30pm

Lesson 1. 2/5 : We'll throw two forms of teapots and two different types of galleries for lids. We'll make lids and spouts.

Lesson 2. 2/12: We'll trim, attach the parts, and add decorations if desired.

Lesson 3. 2/19: We'll make two more different shapes of teapots, along with their lids and spouts.

Lesson 4. 2/26: We'll complete trimming and attach handles and add decorations if desired.

Lesson 5. 3/5: We'll learn how to glaze the teapots in the most beneficial way.
